What is S.E.O.?

If you want your website to be found on Google when potenial customers search for your type of business, you need an SEO company.  S.E.O. / SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization.  What it means is doing things to your website and linking other websites to your website via social networking, articles, etc. to optimize your website for search engines.  Searches engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.  For more information on what SEO is, read more in our blog here.

Why is it important for my business?

How do you get your business to the top of Google?  How to be #1 in the search engines?  If you're not doing it, your competitors could be and Google Adwords isn't enough.  If you don't know what Google Adwords is either, you are really missing out on the new way of advertising.  Newspapers and Yellow pages is old school now and most people search online when looking for a business.  Think about your own habits.  Last time you were looking for a company that can do something for you, did you pickup the phone book, blow the dust off it, and finger your way through the pages? Or did you type in what you were looking for into Google, Yahoo, Bing or some other search engine?  I think you got the point. 

You could be losing lots of business to your competition just because your company is not being found on Google. (When I say Google, I mean any search engine, but Google is the main search engine of choice and all other search engines pretty much provide the same results as Google.)

Why is Twinbytes different from all other SEO companies?

A phone call I received from another SEO company was a perfect example.  They were located in California trying to explain to me why I don't show up at all in a search online for my keywords, when I'm not trying to be found in California. I want to be found in Markham, Ontario  and surround area.

They said "Type in (Computer repair Toronto), see, you don't show up!".  I said, "First of all, yes I do, near the bottom of page 1, but I don't want to be #1 in Toronto, I don't service Toronto; I service Markham and Stouffville mainly".  Either way, this person from California, was naming off who was in the #1 spot, #2, #3, etc and I'm saying "no, I'm showing different results", and we're searching using the exact same keywords on Google.ca but because they are located in California and I'm located in Ontario, it shows different results based on Google algorythm. 

Google has gotten smart and knows where you are searching from and shows you local results.  You can change your location, as you can see in the diagram above I circled Markham, ON and underneeth it shows "Change Location".  Click change location, say you're in California, and now you can see different results again.  Although most of the results changed, I still showed up #1 but they still couldn't see me.  Doesn't matter, I don't want to be in California.  Wait a second, I want to vacation in California, but I don't want to have my business found in California.  Sorry, had to clarify that.  :)

Try this when you have time.  Call a neighbour who lives close by, do a Google search for the same keywords, at the same time, compare your results, not counting the Adwords listings.  Then call a family member or friend who lives as far away as possible, another province or country preferably, do the same test, see how you compare.

This can be all confusing and overwhelming, but it's important to know in your decision making process that the seo company you chose, realizes this.

You can find alot of information about SEO / S.E.O. if you search around online for it, and it can be overwhelming.  When I first started looking it was overwhelming, now Google changed their algorithms, things are different now, but if you are doing things properly, it will have worked in your favor, as it did for Twinbytes.

There are two basic parts to SEO / S.E.O.  On Site and Off Site.  This means certain things need to be setup and maintained on your WebSite but also many things Off your WebSite including, but not limited to, Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, all forms of social media, article submission, etc.  There's so much and the more you do, the better and faster you can improve your ranks.
